WHO ARE Later-in-Life Innovators?

Later in Life Innovation Works

Forget the myth that it is only the young and tech-savvy that lead the way - the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor reported in 2019 that “The highest rate of entrepreneurship worldwide had shifted to the 55-64 age group.” Such later in life innovators bring extensive wisdom and life experience to set up new businesses. But research also shows people over the age of 50 have different challenges when it comes to starting a business and that, to date, there has been very little dedicated support to meet their unique set of needs

Join us today!

Please join us – whether you are exploring a new business yourself or already have one, or whether you can offer encouragement, advice and support.  We are all “fellow travellers” We have kept being part our Group as simple as possible at this stage – there are no fees involved and we are currently self-funding developments.

The term “Senior Entrepreneurs New Zealand” (SENZ) has been established as an overarching term about 5 years ago when a group was established in Dunedin. Our group, ‘Later-in-Life Innovators’, was launched in Christchurch in February 2021. Setting up a new business involves innovation.  As part of this emerging national trend, affiliate groups in Auckland and Hawke’s Bay are also currently being formed.

Monthly Meetings

The LILI Group meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, 5:30-7pm. Do come and mix and mingle, hear a guest speaker, meet with fellow seniors who are starting a business or have just done so, meet with mentors, business angels and coaches. We are delighted that the University Centre for Entrepreneurship sponsors our meetings in their innovation space on the 6th floor of the Rehua building on the University of Canterbury campus.

Training Programmes

We are currently developing a targeted training programme based on the specific needs of seniors (over 50s) getting into business for the first time.
